"THE ANTI-DEMOCRATIC ORIGINS OF CAPITALISM: COLONIAL VIRGINIA" by regensordo

ChuangTzu14  provided a link to this 2017 article and I thought it deserved to be its own topic for discussion in the hopes it will get more readership. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ December 16, 2017 Racism and identity politics is one of the most fundamental and effective tactics of divide and conquer in the world since the beginning, and particularly the United States. As the American empire dies down lower order divisions will be amped up.  Identity politics is being pushed by the Established Order as never before. Traditionally the right-wing has been pushing the bigotry. Currently, we see Liberalism taking up the mantle (see  here ,  here  and  here ). It is vital that the masses open their eyes to the tribalism pushed on them. Sexism is older, more fundamental to society, and without it things would have turned out much differently. Capitalism has long been predated by the subjugation of women, for it can only rest on a foundation of patriarchy, which in turn mad

"America’s Education System: Teaching the Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing" by John Stanton

Thanks to Ort for suggesting this article. For those who haven't been in an Amerikan public school for a good long while, if at all, this is an pretty accurate take of your "average" school, although they vary widely according to the wealth of the surrounding zipcodes. And no, I don't think more money is going to "fix" the problem - that would take some intelligence, which is in very short supply in the "education" field, no matter how much money is flooded in. I must point out that Ort objected to the author's defense of doing that fascist "Pledge of Allegiance" ceremony every day, not that it seemed to instill much of a sense of patriotism when I was a student and forced to mumble the words every morning. How about you? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Ask students to read for more than a couple of sentences and many will protest that they can’t do it. The most frequent complaint that teachers hear that it’s boring. It is not s

HOW TO TAKE BACK OUR STREETS: LESSONS FROM 10 MONTHS OF RESISTANCE IN FRANCE

Posted on  September 16, 2019  by  winter oak This is a translation of the article ‘ Comment reprendre nos rues ‘ from the Cerveaux Non Disponibles website. They can be followed on Twitter via  @CerveauxNon Over ten months, the Gilets Jaunes movement has managed again and again to surprise: to surprise the authorities, the police, the media, public opinion. And even the GJs themselves! Apart from determination and a burning desire for change, what has really changed the landscape of social struggle in France is the new reality of totally decentralised and autonomous actions. Blockades, occupations, demonstrations, disorder. So many possibilities that can no longer be found in the standardised world of trade unions, opposition parties, NGOs and other well-established structures. As protests step up again after the summer of 2019, the field of possibilities seems even more vast. Much more vast than the authorities and the media are saying. But if we are to make waves again, per

"Misogyny, Male Rage & the Words Men Use to Describe Greta Thunberg"

Emotions continue to rage over Greta Thunberg as a personality, to the point of eclipsing her message. Is she fighting against capitalism or engaged, wittingly or unwittingly, in what Cory Morningstar characterizes as a capitalist reboot? Compare the assessment in this article, in which Camilla Nelson sees Thunberg as "attacking industrial capitalism" and being met with "the language of climate denialism," with  the contrary assessment of John Steppling's Marxist perspective: I have even seen of late self identified leftists suggesting the “Greta” phenomenon was the working class finding its voice. (no, I’m not making that up). I have also seen many leftists – many of whom I have known for years — simply hysterical around the subject of this teenager. Her greatest appeal is to middle aged white men. I have no real explanation for that. But then these same men quote, often, everyone from Guy McPherson (who I think needs a padded cell, frankly) to Bill McK
