Mensch59 here. Although this is about politics in the UK, I think it applies to Amerika and to the whole of the Anglosphere. In  one sense, it feels as if freedom in the West is constantly expanding, from the liberalism of the 1960s to the ‘great awokening’ of the past decade, in which even our freedom to choose and express an identity has dramatically expanded. Yet, as the global response to the pandemic has shown, we have simultaneously been content to see entire nations placed under collective house arrest. Nicola Sturgeon says they are a sign of  ‘solidarity’.   Matt Hancock has admitted they are to  ‘give people more confidence to shop safely’ . The emotionally manipulative and coercive language around masks focuses on what they represent –  showing you care . Who wants to be impolite? Who wants to be derided for not caring?  While very few people are wearing masks on the high street, online mask shaming is in your face. Covidiot. Selfish. Get over it. Mask up. The State of Texas today had to remove 3,484 cases from its Covid-19 positive case count, because the San Antonio Health Department was reporting “probable” cases for people never actually tested, as “confirmed” positive cases.- TDHS What other departments make this same mistake? ====== Oregon is counting positive and presumptive cases, which is probably why they are having “record” cases and threatening shutdown. Meanwhile hospitals in Oregon stay pretty much empty of covid patients ======= They are reporting probable cases with confirmed cases here in Ohio as well. ========= I know of a specific case where people making appt for a test but did not take the test because of the wait time got positive results back...without taking the test.
