Why the ‘Left’ Is Dead in the Water (Revisited) GILAD ATZMON  • DECEMBER 13, 2019  • 1,000 WORDS   •  44 COMMENTS   •  REPLY Introduction: Following his party’s catastrophic defeat, humiliated Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn announced this morning that he would discuss with the party its need for a ‘process of reflection’ and promised that he himself “will lead the party during this period to ensure this discussion takes place.” I will not hold my breath waiting for Labour to overcome its most acute problems. As a first step toward a recovery I would advise Corbyn and his caricature party that instead of  suspending and expelling  party members for reading yours truly, instead of  expelling MPs  for supporting my right to make  a living as musician , or spending  hundreds of thousands of taxpayer  s money trying to appease a foreign ardent right wing Lobby. , the Labour partly/hardly should i...

"The Matrix: Disentangling Anti-Psychiatry"

The Matrix: Disentangling Anti-Psychiatry By T.N. Tampiyappa, FRANZCP December 7, 2019 57 4496 Facebook Twitter Email PrintFriendly Rediff MyPage “It’s a fair cop. But society is to blame.” — Monty Python For the last forty years, psychiatry has been comprehensively critiqued from a myriad of disciplines including sociology, psychology, and the user movement. But how do these criticisms hold up from the perspective of a psychiatrist working in the public system? Is there anything that can be salvaged from the psychiatry project? Indeed, would it be better, as many have argued, if psychiatrists were voted off the island altogether so other practitioners can more effectively help those with broken minds? I propose that critiquing biological psychiatry is a straw man — albeit reinforced with concrete — as it is but one player in the crowded mental health industrial complex that involves culture, economics, government bureaucracy, the pharmaceu...

"Indigenous Bolivia Ready to Go to War Against Fascism" by Andre Vltchek

December 9, 2019 By 21wire   The indigenous people of Altiplano (Photo: Andre Vltchek 2019©) Bolivia, December 2019, three weeks after the fascist coup. It is devilishly cold. My comrade’s car is carefully navigating through the deep mud tracks. Enormous snow-covered mountain peaks are clearly visible in the distance. The Bolivian Altiplano; beloved, yet always somehow hostile, silent, impenetrable. So many times, in the past I came close to death here. In Peru as well as in Bolivia. More often in Peru. Now, what I do is totally mad. Being a supporter of President Evo Morales from the beginning until this very moment, I am not supposed to be here; in Bolivia, in the Altiplano. But I am, because these mud huts on the left and right, are so familiar and so dear to me. My comrade is a Bolivian farmer, an indigenous man. His hands are red, rough. He usually does not talk much, but after the coup, he cannot stop speaking. This is his country; the country that he loves a...

5 People Who Deserved Time’s Person of the Year Besides Greta Thunberg DECEMBER 12, 2019 By  Matt Agorist If you’ve gone on the internet this week, you’ve likely seen that 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg was chosen as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019. Congratulations Ms. Thunberg. This is a huge accomplishment, especially at the age of 16, which is a record for the youngest person ever to receive this honor. If Thunberg’s activism actually wakes people up to pollution and incites a peaceful and a voluntarily implemented environmental benefit — without ushering in a tyrannical climate change police state — we fully support her endeavors. Wanting to save the world is a noble cause and if children want to try to do that, by all means, have at it—just don’t take away anyone’s life or liberty in the process. Thunberg’s activism has sparked a movement of millions of children yelling at their parents to clean up their acts and start caring about the ...
