The Propaganda of Terror and Fear: A Lesson from Recent History

Image
The Propaganda of Terror and Fear: A Lesson from Recent History Dr Piers Robinson, Co-Director  Organisation for Propaganda Studies T he ongoing and unfolding reactions to the Corona Virus look set to have wide-ranging and long-lasting effect on politics, society and economics. The drive to close down all activities is extraordinary as are the measures being promoted to isolate people from each other. The deep-rooted fear of contagious disease, hardwired into the collective consciousness by historical events such as the ‘Black/Bubonic Plague’ and maintained through popular culture (e.g. the Hollywood movies  Outbreak  and  Contagion ), means that people are without question highly susceptible to accepting extreme emergency measures whether or not such measures are rational or justified.  The New York Times  called for America to be  put on a war footing  in order to deal with Corona whilst  former Army General Stanley McChrystal  has been invoking his 9/11 experience

Forced Liquidation

Forced Liquidation James Howard Kunstler  Historians of the future, pan-roasting fresh-caught June bugs over their campfires, may wonder when, exactly, was the moment that the financial world broke with reality. Was it when Nixon slammed the “gold window” shut? When “maestro” Alan Greenspan first bamboozled a Senate finance committee? When Pets.com face-planted 268 days after its IPO? When Ben Bernanke declared the housing bubble “contained?” If our reality is a world of human activity, then finance is now completely divorced from it for the obvious reason that, for now, there is no human activity. Everyone, except the doctors and nurses, and some government officials, is locked down. So, the only other thing actually still  out there  spinning its wheels is finance and, to those of us watching from solitary confinement, it is looking more and more like an IMAX-scale hallucination with Dolby sound. How many mortals can even pretend to understand the transactions now taking

The Coronavirus Stimulus Bill Is a $2 Trillion Slush Fund for Washington Cronies

The Coronavirus Stimulus Bill Is a $2 Trillion Slush Fund for Washington Cronies By Marshall Auerback, a market analyst and commentator. Produced by  Economy for All , a project of the Independent Media Institute When historians look back on our current government’s response to a public health emergency and resultant economic depression, there won’t be many paeans to profiles in courage. It may seem impressive that Congress has  approved legislation  worth $2 trillion to help sustain the American economy, but it’s no New Deal. Rather it’s a massive economic slush fund that does its utmost to preserve the old ways of doing things under the guise of masquerading as a response to a public health emergency. In reality, the relief provisions are barely adequate. Had this been another financial crisis like 2008, it is doubtful that America’s oligarch class would be able to secure such huge provision for themselves again. Under the guise of a public health emergency, though, serial

A Note On Our Time

Image
A Note On Our Time By  Morgan Young I’m a bartender in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. Last week, March 14 th , our business was pressured amid mounting anxiety to cancel an event we’d planned a few months prior. That event should have increased sales, netted us some publicity and helped us loosen up our margins. We were counting on it, because we’re a very new, very fragile small business. Small businesses tend to operate within very tight margins, but many people fail to understand just how tight those margins are. You can generally sum it up by saying that your annual profit, if you’re successful, is about a month’s worth of business. For the first five years, every loss is poignant, and every gain is borderline euphoric. Obviously, this hurt, and we would have preferred not to have done it. Nevertheless, we somehow knew that we had no choice in the matter. Although no decree was handed down by any official in any capacity, there was a vague and yet unmistakable thre

Decided to post these two articles on the same page... Mar 24, 2020    12 Experts Questioning the Coronavirus Panic Below is our list of twelve medical experts whose opinions on the Coronavirus outbreak contradict the official narratives of the MSM, and the memes so prevalent on social media. * * * Dr Sucharit Bhakdi  is a specialist in microbiology. He was a professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and head of the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene and one of the most cited research scientists in German history. What he says: We are afraid that 1 million infections with the new virus will lead to 30 deaths per day over the next 100 days. But we do not realise that 20, 30, 40 or 100 patients positive for normal coronaviruses are already dying every day. [The government’s anti-COVID19 measures] are grotesque, absurd and very dangerous […] The life expectancy of millions is being shortened. The horrifying impact on the world econo
